Next offering of Costa Rica: an Immersion in Culture and Nature is Fall term 2022 (Due to COVID and travel uncertainties, we are postponing the 2021 course). Expected travel dates are Dec 9-20.
Course is 3-credit NR/TRAL 499 special topics
The course consists of 1-credit worth of pre-trip learning to provide students in-depth preparation for both the adventure, ecology, and cultural components of the study-abroad opportunity.
During winter break (returning before Dec 25) we will travel to Costa Rica for about an 11-day adventure that includes back-country packing through tropical forests between family-owned farms, the coffee town of Santa Maria de Dota, learning the origin and culture of Costa Rica, river raft the most pristine river in Costa Rica, and explore coastal ecosystems on the Pacific side, including a overnight hike through Corcovado National Park.
Your OSU faculty leads are Ron Reuter, landscape ecologist, and Andrew Hawley, an adventure leader and wilderness expert. Along the way we will be assisted by an extended family that has been living off the land in Costa Rica for decades.
Course Schedules, including budget estimates
