"Improving the biogeochemical function of stormwater ditches for better stormwater management."
The student will be at WSU's Puyallup Research and Extension Center in Puyallup (PREC), 45 minutes south of Seattle, 15 minutes east of Tacoma. We are looking for a motivated master's student interested in hydrology, ecology, water quality, or geomorphology. This study will link critical ecological, geomorphic, and physiochemical functions to stormwater management in the Pacific Northwest. Ultimately, this study will contribute to improved ditch construction and maintenance practices in the Puget Sound region of western Washington. This work is part of Washington Stormwater Center's efforts to bring research and science to western Washington communities. Applicants should be interested in fieldwork and have good analytical and writing skills. As the project bridges geochemistry, soil science, and hydraulics, some laboratory or computer modeling experience would be advantageous. Degrees will be granted by WSU's Department of Biological Systems Engineering, or the School of the Environment, depending on the student's undergraduate background. We seek a student who can begin coursework in fall 2021 with the possibility of doing fieldwork in summer 2021, based on COVID-19 restrictions in effect at that time. Interested students can email Dr. Ani Jayakaran ([email protected]) for further details. Other Information 1) MS program in Biological Systems Engineering - https://bsyse.wsu.edu 2) MS programs in the School of the Environment - https://environment.wsu.edu/graduate-studies/ 3) Applications should be made to WSU's Graduate School- https://gradschool.wsu.edu/apply/ Outreach notice for a Customer Service position
