Didn't have to leave the house for this one. Caught this juvenile coopers hawk in the side year. Sat there for an hour almost, first plucking the down and feathers off of the stellar jay that it struck down and then eventually consuming a fair amount.
After the hawk ate a bunch, it sat there looking like it was in a food coma. Went out later to get rid of the carcass and all that was left was feathers and a beak and crush skull. Guess the snack was to be lunch later on as well.
It is interesting to sit in the yard listening to the bird chatter, and then hear nothing - silence. Squirrels and birds no longer exist. Minutes later, a hawk or an eagle swoops through. And then the chatter begins again. Pretty cool how the wave of warning comes through the trees in advance of the predator.
