We are continuing to recruit biologists to work as fisheries observers—currently for trainings that will begin 12/26/18 for the North Pacific (Alaska) and February 2019 for Trawl Catch Shares (west coast) Observer Programs.  Additionally, we will continue to hire and deploy observers to the North Pacific during the summer of 2019.

If you know any recent grads or December graduates still looking for field biology positions, please forward this e-mail and encourage them to visit our website or get in touch with me directly.  There is a new video on our website about the purpose of fisheries observers, you can watch it here: www.alaskanobservers.com/working-as-an-observer.

Let me know if you would also like a pdf flyer to put up in your department.  To stop receiving my emails just reply with the word “unsubscribe.”

Sincerely,

Rachel Moore

Seeking graduate students (MS and PhD) who are interested in research on water governance, water security, and sustainable transitions to start in Fall 2019. New graduate students will be joining a vibrant group of current staff researchers, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students at Texas A&M University who study various dimensions of water security and governance.
Areas of specific interest that complement themes of current research include:
  • Household and community-scale water insecurity
  • Socio-technological change and the political ecology of water infrastructure
  • Urban water security and governance of sustainable transitions
  • General themes of urban groundwater governance, desalination and water reuse.
There are opportunities to develop research projects in existing global research sites and collaborations (Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Australia, and Israel) in addition to research sites in the transboundary area of Texas (El Paso), San Antonio, and southern California.
Students who work in the area of household and community-scale water insecurity will also have professionalization and networking opportunities through the interdisciplinary NSF-funded HWISE RCN (Household Water Insecurity Experiences-Research Coordination Network, https://hwise-rcn.org/).
Students interested in urban water security will have opportunities to work in a large research "X-Grant" project funded by Texas A&M University Presidential Excellence Fund ("Pathways to sustainable urban water security: Desalination and water reuse in the 21st Century), urbanwaterpathways.wordpress.com/team. Students will also have opportunities to participate in an interdisciplinary community of researchers in policy, engineering, urban planning, law, and the Texas Water Resources Institute.
Funding is available for up to four years (through graduate teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and fellowships) with the potential for additional support thereafter.  For more information, please contact me (wjepson@tamu.edu) and consult https://wendyjepson.net/.
